Microsoft Announces Free Antivirus Software for No-Cost Consumer 2009

Microsoft has long annoyed security software makers over the last decade as it has rolled out free products which often offer a competitive alternative to competitor's packaged software free-of-charge. Microsoft merely offered a decently competitive product for a much cheaper price -- free.

Microsoft Corp. plans to offer a new consumer security offering focused on core anti-malware protection.
Code-named “Morro,” this streamlined solution will be available in the second half of 2009 and will provide comprehensive protection from malware including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans. This new solution, to be offered at no charge to consumers, will be architected for a smaller footprint that will use fewer computing resources.

“Customers around the world have told us that they need comprehensive, ongoing protection from new and existing threats, and we take that concern seriously,” said Amy Barzdukas, senior director of product management for the Online Services and Windows Division at Microsoft. “This new, no-cost offering will give us the ability to protect an even greater number of consumers, especially in markets where the growth of new PC purchases is outpaced only by the growth of malware.”

Built on Microsoft’s award-winning malware protection engine, “Morro” will take advantage of the same core anti-malware technology that fuels the company’s current line of security products, which have received the VB100 award from Virus Bulletin, Checkmark Certification from West Coast Labs and certification from the International Computer Security Association Labs. The new solution will deliver the same core protection against malware as that offered through Microsoft’s enterprise solutions, but will not include many of the additional non-security features found in many consumer security suites.

“Morro” will be available as a stand-alone download and offer malware protection for the Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. When used in conjunction with the ongoing security and privacy enhancements of Windows and Internet Explorer, this new solution will offer consumers a robust, no-cost security solution to help protect against the majority of online threats.

Windows Live OneCare will continue to be sold for Windows XP and Windows Vista at retail through June 30, 2009. Direct sales of OneCare will be gradually phased out when “Morro” becomes available. Regardless of their method of purchase, Microsoft will ensure that all current customers remain protected through the life of their subscriptions.

DO YOU KNOW

Google has started a new site called Knol that allows you to share your vast wealth of personal information with the world. Everyone knows something that no one else knows. Think about it, I'm sure you can come up with something. Voice your opinion on something, or tell the world about something you witnessed. Then you can share it on Knol.
"The web contains vast amounts of information, but not everything worth knowing is on the web. An enormous amount of information resides in people's heads" Cedric Dupont, Product Manager and Michael McNally, Software Engineer

Then you can browse around Knol and find other articles that interest you. Make modification suggestions to the author of the article, they can then choose to use your suggestions or not. Write reviews on other people's articles.

If you choose to use ads in your Knol articles, you stand the chance of earning a little extra money. You can even add cartoons to your articles from New Yorker magazine.

Downloading Media Player videos

Hi there, my name is nitesh. I face the following issue:

In webpages like the " http://www.skai.gr/master_searchresults_avod.php?allwords=%E5%EB%EB%E7%ED%EF%F6%F1%E5%ED%E5%E9%E1&numrows=10&offset=0&category=43343&pagewindow=10 " I can click on one of the links called as "Ελληνοφρενεια" and listen to some Greek radio shows, not live, meaning listen to old ones. By pressing on one of the links a new page comes up where the radio show is being loaded in a media player program.
My question now is IF and HOW I will be able to download such media player files that are broadcasted through the webpage itself to my computer so I can listen to them whenever I want.

I just want to make clear that I can listen to these shows on the internet, I would just like to have them downloaded on my computer so that I can transfer them to my ipod, mp3 etc to listen to them later.

Thank you in advance for your help and support. If possible, please reply in

Regards,

nitesh
